How to Start Making Money as a Freelance Writer

Before you even say it, no. Setting yourself up as a freelance writer isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme. It takes time, effort, and a certain amount of self-belief to start a career as a freelancer. If making money as quickly as possible is your goal, writing isn’t the way.

That being said, this path does have a fairly low barrier to entry. All you really need is a computer and an internet connection (which I appreciate is still a luxury for many people). With those, a career in writing is quite literally at your fingertips.

Credentials check

There are a lot of people online who (for whatever reason) give advice, even go as far as creating courses, on freelance writing without ever having been in the trenches. So why should you continue reading, or believe anything I tell you?

While I first dabbled in blogging as a person way back in the day when Tumblr was at its peak, I started my business as a freelance writer two years ago. And I wouldn’t be the first to tell you that being a blogger and being a freelance writer are very different things.
